Oprah Winfrey’s best friend admits even she doesn’t know what is next for the retiring talk-show queen.
Oprah announced last week that she was quitting her world-famous talk show after 25 years at the top.
“After 25 years, it’s just time to go while you’re on top,” Gayle King said.
“It really was as simple as that and, maybe, to have a semblance of a life.
“Hey listen, no pity party for Oprah, because she has a great life, does wonderful things, but you know, at the end of the day, it really is her life.”
Winfrey will end her talk show in 2011 after one final season of interviews.
“I don’t even think she knows,” King said of Oprah’s future plans.
“She’s riding off from ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ as we know it, but she’s not riding off into the sunset.”
Christmas is coming up and it seems everybody is anxious about putting something out on the market. Next up is Kylie Minogue who is working on some new tracks with Taio Cruz who said the following about her upcoming Christmas package: “I’ve done a few tracks with Kylie which sound amazing and very dancey, but that’s because most things right now are – I’m making it very current.” We wouldn’t want Kylie Minogue to actually start singing something that isn’t current… something that she might actually want to sing, of course not. Where would the world be today if singers actually followed their own inclinations instead of making the stuff that sells? A large number of swingers would probably be bored out of their wit.
Courteney Cox will be back on the set of Cougar Town after the Thanksgiving break, according to reports.
ABC producers had earlier announced she had taken time off for a family matter. But producers confirmed she would be back for shooting on November 30, People reports.
Her co-star Busy Philipps, meanwhile, informed her fans on Twitter that Cougar Town, the show about older women and younger men, was only down one day. She tweeted: “We’re back shooting after Thanksgiving. I’ll pass along the love to CC.”
Other reports claim unrest is brewing due to Cox exerting a control-freak wand over the cast and crew. According to a US tabloid, an unnamed Cougar Town staffer claimed she blasted staffers for such issues as not bringing her enough wardrobe changes and putting the wrong meat and cheese on a sandwich.
According to one crew member, everyone on the set is trying to avoid Cox. “Courteney is the star of the show and very domineering,” the crew member said. “She gives off this ‘I’m important and you’re not’ vibe. Courteney makes a huge number of script changes to make her character look good, and she is extremely picky about everything on the show.”
A police chief is facing up to six-and-a-half years in jail after he was convicted of breaking into the home of Sarah Jessica Parker’s surrogate Michelle Ross.
Disgraced Barry P Carpenter has also been fired from his job following the court case.
Carpenter was cleared yesterday of three burglary charges, but convicted on charges of theft in office, tampering with evidence and receiving stolen property.
The policeman was arrested in the summer after various paparazzi revealed that they had been offered ultrasound pictures of Parker’s surrogate twins, pictures of Ross and legal documents.
Carpenter later admitted that he had gone into the home of Ross in Martins Ferry, Ohio, but only because a basement door had been left open.
Carpenter will be sentenced on 30 December, but will be confined to his mother’s home until then.
Police chief Chad M Dojak, 29, who also faces criminal charges in the case, will stand trial on 12 January.
Special prosecutor T Shawn Hervey said after the case: “This sends a message to rogue cops all over America that if you perpetrate a crime like this, you will be caught.”
Aussie actress Cate Blanchett says she ‘loves’ raising her three sons.
Blanchett, 40, is mum to three young boys with husband Andrew Upton – Dashiell, seven, Roman, five, and Ignatius, 19 months.
She told PEOPLE: “Having boys is great. It’s a neat position to be in and I love the high energy that comes along in raising boys. It’s fun.”
Blanchett recently finished performing a run of production A Streetcar Named Desire in Sydney and Washington and will soon be taking it to New York.
Talking about performing in the show, she said: “Theatre is an evening event so you can’t put your kids to bed as often as you like, but we seem to find a way to manage.
“The kids have been to New York before and they love it. We have lots of friends who’ve got kids and that helps. But they will come visit me at work.
“We did a show earlier in the year in Sydney and our little child actually watched the show backstage, which is a really interesting and exciting place with people putting on makeup and costumes, so they love it.”
Carla Bruni is reported to be starring in the next Woody Allen movie.
The French First Lady and former supermodel was said to be thrilled that Allen had approached her about the movie on a visit to Paris.
She said: “I’m not an actress at all. Perhaps I’ll be completely hopeless but I can’t miss an opportunity like this one. When I’m a grandmother I’d like to be able to say I made a film with Woody Allen.”
Bruni dabbles in show business, mainly as a guitar-strumming musician who favours ballads from the flower power days of the 1960s. She is reprising a duet of And I Love Her, the Beatles classic, with Harry Connick Jr for French television.
Bruni shot to recent fame when she married French President Nicolas Szarkozy after a whirlwind romance. The enigmatic New York director Allen said Bruni was “without question” his first choice for the upcoming movie’s female lead part. He said: “I’m sure she would be wonderful. She has charisma, and she performs, so she’s not a stranger to an audience.”
Sandra Bullock has revealed her love for rescue dogs with special needs.
The 45-year-old actress owns a two-legged dog and a three-legged dog, both of which she dresses up in American football jerseys.
“When I fly and they ask me to pay separately, I say ‘no, no, no. The description of a dog is four legs,” she joked.
“We have those two and then we have Mr T – Mr Tubbs – a very large tan puppy that takes up about that much of the bed.”
Mr T weighs 36kg, Bullock confessed. She then went on to show off a picture of her two smaller pets during an appearance on pal Ellen DeGeneres’ chat show.
“Ruby is the one on the left,” she pointed out. “Michael Oher [the Baltimore Ravens footballer whose life is the subject of her latest film, The Blind Side] made them some jerseys. Poppy was a little overweight so she was embarrassed and didn’t want her picture taken. Ruby sits upright. Ruby has two legs and Poppy has three legs, so collectively they’re basically a dog.”
Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp are set for some saucy scenes in their upcoming movie The Tourist.
Jolie, 34, and Depp, 46, have both signed on for the new flick and Life & Style has obtained a copy of the movie’s draft script, which revealed the steamy action that takes place.
The movie sees Depp play the part of American tourist Frank Taylor, who Jolie’s character, Interpol agent Cara Mason, uses to get what she wants.
The script says: “The outline of her naked body is visible in the shower. Frank walks to the shower and opens the glass door.
“Walking in, he lifts Cara against the glass, clutching at her slithery body, kissing her frantically. She kisses him back with ardor, wrapping her dripping legs around his back.”
Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz has said she loves getting older as it allows her to get sexier and more confident.
The 37-year-old star, whose new movie The Box will soon be released, said that she doesn’t mind the fact she is approaching 40.
Asked if she is sad to be taking on more mature roles, she said to UK magazine Look: “No, I love getting older! I feel more self-possessed, which I think allows you to be more sexy, more confident.
“It’s also natural that as I get older I play mothers and wives and be part of different kinds of films. Women are obsessed with looking young, but what about the innocence of youth?
“The thing to envy in young people is not how they look but their innocence.”
The gals from the popular band who recently underwent some line-up changes and the recurring conflicts that resulted from them are now reborn to a higher state. This is what Heidi Range said about the new and improved Sugababes: “We’ve been rehearsing loads and are enjoying it at last. We feel like a new band learning the songs again. I wish we could discuss what we are doing musically more but obviously there’s been so much else to talk about recently and we have to give answers.” Well, Keisha Buchanan is probably going to be bouncing off the walls when she reads this… hopefully she won’t intimidate Jade Ewen anymore and the Sugababes can get on with being a band.
