Carla Bruni is reported to be starring in the next Woody Allen movie.
The French First Lady and former supermodel was said to be thrilled that Allen had approached her about the movie on a visit to Paris.
She said: “I’m not an actress at all. Perhaps I’ll be completely hopeless but I can’t miss an opportunity like this one. When I’m a grandmother I’d like to be able to say I made a film with Woody Allen.”
Bruni dabbles in show business, mainly as a guitar-strumming musician who favours ballads from the flower power days of the 1960s. She is reprising a duet of And I Love Her, the Beatles classic, with Harry Connick Jr for French television.
Bruni shot to recent fame when she married French President Nicolas Szarkozy after a whirlwind romance. The enigmatic New York director Allen said Bruni was “without question” his first choice for the upcoming movie’s female lead part. He said: “I’m sure she would be wonderful. She has charisma, and she performs, so she’s not a stranger to an audience.”
