Oprah Winfrey’s medical guru recently came under fire for promoting alternative treatments.
Mehmet Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon, was accused of quackery by his outspoken peers. According to MSNBC, Oz encouraged viewers of the popular daytime show to “cure what ails them” by trying out “energy medicine”.
Stephen Barrett, a vice-president of the National Council Against Health Fraud, told a US tabloid, “One part of Dr Oz is highly rational and scientific, but I think he’s also loaded with near-delusional ideas and gives some very bad advice. The bottom line for me is that he does more harm than good for American health.”
MSNBC reports that Oz’s promotion of Reiki, which his wife teaches, has particularly come under fire. Mary Ann Malloy, a cardiologist, told the National Enquirer: “Dr Oz promotes unproven approaches such as Reiki and Therapeutic Touch, and to support them he cherry-picks studies that are positive and ignores the negative ones.”
Not all physicians, however, were opposed. Ernie Bodai said: “I like what Dr Oz is doing and I agree with it. If a patient wants these kinds of complementary treatments, I think a doctor is right to utilise them – as long as they are used as an addition to standard medical treatments rather than a replacement.”
Even though the good doctor has pleaded not guilty to the charges of involuntary manslaughter brought to him, Michael Jackson’s mother, Katherine Jackson, insists that he’s guilty. This is what she said on the matter: “He’s lying. He’s guilty. Nobody was there but him. He’s just trying to save his own behind. He killed him. He wasn’t monitoring him.” Well, she can’t expect Michael Jackson’s doctor to just go down without a fight. W kind of a righteous man does Katherine Jackson think Conrad Murray is for him to just admit it… especially since he can probably afford a good lawyer.
It seems that the singer will be having her own reality show that will last the whole period of her pregnancy and for which Danii Minogue will be getting paid no less than 300 000 dollars. But she recently denied rumors of such a show with a small twitter post that reads “Not true!” So what’s the deal? Is Danii Minogue renegotiating the terms of her show? After all… her pregnancy must be worth more than just 300 000… what kind of trust fund is she going to set up for her child with that kind of money?
Project Runway host Heidi Klum says her newborn daughter is “great”.
The 36-year-old has recently welcomed little Lou into the world and admits that she won’t leave her side.
Heidi, who married singer Seal back in 2005, told Extra: “I mean it’s a little bit hard because she’s very attached to me still. She doesn’t drink from the bottle.
“That’s a little bit of an issue right now!”
Klum also mentioned that she won’t be spending Valentine’s Day with her husband Seal, 46, but she plans to make it up to him with a home-made package.
She added: “I’m not going to be with him, I’m going to be in New York for fashion week.”
Terminator star Linda Hamilton has revealed that ex-husband James Cameron dumped her for Titanic.
In an exclusive interview with the Sun newspaper, Hamilton, 53, said: “Titanic was the mistress he left me for. He was the kind of man who really would rather be at work with the mistress than at home with the wife. That was hard to come to terms with.”
She added: “We had a very stormy relationship. He was all brain and work and I was all heart and living. He had guns next to his side of the bed and I had crystals and fertility symbols next to mine. We were just really not meant to be together.”
Hamilton also admits that she thought Cameron’s latest blockbuster Avatar, which he spent 15 years working on, would be a flop.
She said: “He had some other films he was going back and forth with. I thought Avatar was the lesser of them all.”
Angie Everhart has showed off her baby bump in a new ad campaign for Palmer’s Cocoa Butter.
The 40-year-old – who gave birth to son Kayden Bobby Everhart in July – filmed the TV ad when she was heavily pregnant.
Dressed in white and hugging her naked – and stretchmark-free – baby bump, the model-turned-actress looks at the camera and says: “Palmer’s works and I am the proof.
“As an actress and a model, I need my skin to look beautiful.”
Kayden is the first baby for Everhart, whose past lovers include actors Sylvester Stallone and Joe Pesci – both of whom she was briefly engaged to.
The actress has refused to identify her son’s father.
Johnny Depp is planning to direct a new documentary about Rolling Stones rock star Keith Richards. This will be the actor’s first project behind the camera in over ten years! The two are reportedly friends and Johnny famously claimed that the rock icon’s behavior was his inspiration for Captain Jack Sparrow in the ‘Pirates of Caribbean’ films, which was enough to warrant Keith’s appearance in the last film as Sparrow’s dad. The documentary might be interesting so I’d probably check it out. I’m a fan of both their works anyway and it should be interesting to see how good Johnny would be behind the camera as he is in front of it.
Troubled actor Charlie Sheen was woken up to shocking news that his SUV had been stolen and crashed down a 100-foot cliff.
Sheen first knew something had happened when he was woken at 4am on Friday by operators of his car alarm system telling him his car had crashed.
Sheen reportedly then alerted his own security team who discovered his BMW SUV had been stolen.
Officials later found the SUV at the bottom of a 100-foot cliff off Mulholland Drive.
Los Angeles Fire Department Erik Scott said 32 Los Angeles firefighters including two helicopters were involved in the search-and-rescue mission.
An infrared scanner was also used to search for any victims at the crash scene but so far none have been found. Police are still investigating and hunting for a suspect.
The theft is just the latest headache for the actor, who was arrested on Christmas Day in Aspen, Colorado, for allegedly attacking wife Brooke Mueller.
He was charged with two domestic violence-related felony charges and ordered to keep away from Brooke – who later dramatically fell ill and was rushed to hospital.

Brown will reportedly be answering questions about his personal life as well as politics during the episode.
Morgan said: “I’ve been trying to secure a Life Stories with the Prime Minister since the series was first devised as he is an absolutely perfect subject for the show.
“He’s one of the most famous people in the country, yet remains a man of mystery.”
