Items from Princess Diana’s wardrobe are going under the hammer.
Clothes up for grabs include the taffeta Emanuel creation she wore at just 19 for her first official appearance with Prince Charles. The glamorous gown, which set a thousand flashbulbs popping, is set to fetch up to £50,000 at the auction.
A chiffon blouse worn by the then Lady Diana Spencer for her engagement portrait taken by Lord Snowdon is expected to sell for between £10,000 and £15,000.
The auction also includes sketches of her wedding dress, which could reach £1200, its final calico toile, which is estimated to get between £8000 and £12,000, and even an ivory paper taffeta bridal gown used by the princess for fittings (£2000-£3000).
A total of 30 lots are being put up for sale by designers David and Elizabeth Emmanuel, who were instrumental in shaping the young princess’s interest in fashion.
There is even a folder charting the princess’s measurements between 1981 and 1987 – her childbearing years in which she suffered from severe anorexia and bulimia. It is expected to command £400-£600.
The auction will take place in London on June 8 at specialist vintage fashion auctioneers Kerry Taylor Auctions.
