Actresses Emma Thompson and Maggie Gyllenhaal have sent their well wishes after Michael Douglas was diagnosed with throat cancer.

Thompson, 51, and Gyllenhaal, 32, were speaking at a special screening of their new movie Nanny McPhee Returns.

It was recently announced that the Wall Street star has a tumour in his throat and will now undergo treatment.

Speaking to ET about the news, Thompson said: “It sounds as though they’re going to get it [the tumour] and he’ll be okay. And that’s what we all devoutly hope.

“He’s clearly a very, very nice person… I just wish him well as soon as possible.”

Gyllenhaal added: “I hope every good thing for him.”

Julia Roberts won’t be talking about her faith in public any more.

The 42-year-old actress, who was raised a Catholic, has attracted media attention after she recently admitted she was a practicing Hindu.

“I’ve realized something my mother told me 22-years ago,” the Oscar-winner said.

“You’re an actor, so act. Don’t talk about politics or religion.”

Roberts is currently starring in the big screen adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat Pray Love which charts the author’s spiritual quest around the Italy, India and Bali. The box office star says the role allowed her to draw on her own experiences, Associated Press reports.

The mother-of-three also said that her interest in the Eastern religion pre-dated her work on the film.

Burlesque star Kristen Bell has revealed that she loves to eat a whole cheesecake with her friends because it feels “incredible”.

But the 30-year-old actress said she works off the extra calories by playing Ultimate Frisbee in Los Angeles, rock climbing in Malibu and exploring underwater caves in Palos Verdes.

Bell, who has been a vegetarian for 19 years, told Shape magazine that she cannot resist “devouring” cheesecake, even though she regrets it afterwards.

She said: “I’ve learned I don’t really feel well after I eat it, but I also know that devouring a whole cheesecake with my girlfriends can feel incredible!”

She added: “I am always going to be the kind of person who treats myself.”

Million Dollar Baby star Hilary Swank has revealed that she still dresses in bargain clothes despite being a high-earning Hollywood actress.

The 36-year-old told InStyle magazine: “People around me laugh because I still have a deep understanding of what a dollar can get you and how far to make that dollar go – no wonder my closet is a hodgepodge.

She added: “I have everything from Louboutins to Payless [Shoes].

“From Gap to designer stuff, you don’t have to have a brand name on to be stylish, you can mix it all together and it works.”

Courteney Cox has confessed to feeling hurt at being the only member of the Friends never to receive an Emmy nomination.

She said that throughout her 10 years of playing Monica Geller on the hit series, she never gave up hope she would eventually be nominated.

She told Emmy magazine: “My ego got really bruised. When everyone did but me, that doesn’t feel good at all. There were certain years I thought, ‘Maybe I have a shot’, like the Monica-Chandler years. But I don’t know how it happens and why. Maybe I wasn’t ready.”

The 45-year-old, who plays a recently divorced 40-something in TV series Cougar Town, said getter older is the challenge nowadays. “One second ago, I was the youngest person on the set, and now I’m the oldest. I’m so old, my joints hurt when I keep my legs crossed a certain way for too long. I need glasses to see a movie, to see the computer and to read a book. I was like, really?”

Cat Deeley has revealed that rather than waste time hating herself, she has decided to love her imperfections.

The So You Think You Can Dance host, who has often topped the beauty polls, said although she knows she isn’t perfect, she has learned to be happy with what she has got.

The 33-year-old told Cosmopolitan: “I embraced early on that I’m not perfect. Besides, it’s the imperfections that make people fall in love. Otherwise, we’d all love the same person; guys would all love Gisele and girls would all love Brad Pitt.”

But like every other woman across the globe, she did admit to having the occasional “off day”.

“We all have those days when you have to squeeze a bit harder into your jeans or when you look in the mirror after a long flight and are like, ‘Oh, my goodness!’”

Actress Courteney Cox “can’t believe how different” her and husband David Arquette are.

The 46-year-old has revealed that each year she realises more and more how dissimilar the pair are.

When asked about her initial attraction to David, the Scream 4 star told Emmy magazine: “He was pretty dangerous, like a bad boy – I was so young.

“We are so different that each year I can’t believe how different we are.”

But Cox added that they do have one similarity.

She said: “The one thing that is similar is that we have a similar sense of humour.

“Well, no, that’s not true, we do not have a similar sense of humour, but his is so broad that I fit in part of it.”

The Cougar Town star added: “He’s a unique human being, and a real character.”

Courtney also admitted that being the only Friends cast member not to receive an Emmy nomination did not feel good.

She said: “I tell you, my ego got really bruised, when everyone did but me, that does not feel good at all.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice star Monica Bellucci says she feels more comfortable living in Europe away from the showbiz lifestyle in Hollywood.

Bellucci, 45, prefers to live in Europe with her husband Vincent Cassel and their two daughters Deva, five, and Leonie, three months.

Speaking about being picked for her new role opposite Nicolas Cage, she said: “I am always surprised when an American director thinks about me because I’m not part of that business at all.

“I feel more at home in London, Paris and Rome. My other daughter, Deva, speaks English, French and Italian – she switches between them like a radio.”

She added to UK newspaper the Daily Mirror: “In America, people are really obsessed with VIPs and all those kinds of things. In Europe it’s much easier because everybody knows the difference between an actor and a persona.

“And here they’re not obsessed with age and weight. Here, actresses can work for many, many years. In America you can be a great actress and have no work by the time you’re 40. This is a tragedy, so I don’t want to live this tragedy.”

Sultry Modern Family star Sofia Vergara has slammed women who choose to go under the knife.

“LA is crazy. The women all look the same now,” the 38-year-old said.

“That thing with the cheeks. Like Madonna. Who do they think they’re fooling? It doesn’t make them look young,” the actress argued.

The Colombian-born performer admitted she might one day “tweak her eyes but has sworn off major surgeries”, Esquire reports.

In the past, the star of the Emmy Award-nominated mockumentary said she had considered having a breast reduction, but her mother reportedly talked her out of it, saying: “God is going to punish you if you cut them.”

Explaining her reasoning against any body overhauls, she declared: “You end up looking like a freak.”

Grown Ups star Salma Hayek has admitted she only just learned how to use a computer.

The 43-year-old actress, who is married to businessman Francois Pinault, said she has never Googled herself to see what others are saying about her but the reason is she has never got round to learning how to use a machine.

She said to Britain’s OK! magazine: “I have a confession to make – I just learned how to use the computer last week. My husband has been begging me to do it because it just makes life easier and I’ve been resistant to it, so he tricked me.

“I love sudoku and he said: ‘Look at this iPod, you can play sudoku on it.’ So I started doing the sudoku and then started learning the other stuff and I’m getting into it now. It’s my favourite thing at the moment.”
