The singer is apparently considered to be the “cool aunt” by her nephews. This is what Janet Jackson had to say about herself as an aunt: ”We are a very close family. I love them all very much. A lot of my nieces and nephews come to me when they need someone to talk to. I’ve been told that I’m the cool aunt.” Well it certainly looks like Janet Jackson’s nephews have great admiration for her… and why shouldn’t they? After all, how many nephews out there can say that their aunt is a big pop star? Certainly the fact that Michael Jackson is not around anymore has elevated Janet Jackson’s aunt status.

Though Janet Jackson has two decent songs rotating on the radio right now, don’t expect that to mean that the pop singer will be putting out a full album any time soon. Janet says “There was a time where I was actually in the studio and I was recording, but I’m not working on an album. There have been a lot of record labels that have asked me to sit down and talk with them, but I don’t know if I want to do something completely independent, or go with a major.” The bigger question is what direction she will take her music to once she decides to work on it.

JERMAINE Dupri had quite the 36th birthday. The other night, Dupri and his boo Janet Jackson, partied it up at Tenjune, where they drank and shared bottles of Jay-Z’s Ace of Spades Champagne and Patrón tequila with friends Ne-Yo, Busta Rhymes and Ice-T. Seems as if Dupri went overboard.   Insiders at Tejune snitched to the New York Post saying he:

“vomited in Janet’s lap. Ms. Jackson bolted out of the scene and sped off in her chauffeured Maybach.”

A rep for Jackson and Dupri didn’t return calls. A rep for Tenjune declined to comment.

Maybe he’s stressed out? He is the head of urban music for Island/Def Jam and he did put out Janet’s last album, “Discipline,” which tanked. New York Post’s insider said:

“[IDJ head] L.A. Reid had wanted to make changes to the album, make it fresher with some newer artists added in, but Janet said no – and Jermaine backed her up. He looks silly right now.”

If I were Janet, I’d be kicking his rude a** out of my life. Puking in my lap is a deal breaker!

The JACKSON 5 reunited on stage in California this past Thursday (04Sep08) to accept a BMI icon award but noticeably absent were Michael and Jermaine. Brothers Jermaine, Tito, Marlon, Randy, Jackie and Michael – were honoured with the lifetime achievement award at the BMI Urban Awards.

Tito, Marlon, Randy and Jackie accepted the prize, which was presented to them by sister Janet Jackson. Marlon joked about Michael’s bizarre superstar lifestyle saying:

“I don’t know (where he is). I think he’s in Egypt riding a camel or something.”

A tribute performance by R&B singers Mario, Keri Hilson, JoJo and Lloyd, who gathered on stage to sing a cover of I’ll Be There.

The evening was held at the Wilshire Theater Beverly Hills had a grand finale with a performance of Never Can Say Goodbye sung by Mario, Bobby Valentino, Lloyd and Ray J.

Tito said: “It’s a great honour to know your music influenced a generation. We’re very proud of this moment.” It was a family affair when the Jackson 5 members – who did not perform all got up on stage to pose with parents Joseph and Katherine, and sisters Janet, LaToya and Rebbie after receiving the Icon prize.

Ne-Yo, won Song of the Year for Irreplaceable, a track performed by Beyonce Knowles and written by the Closer hitmaker also won, as well as Espen Lind and Amund Bjorklund.
Kanye West, T-Pain and Jonathan ‘J.R.’ Rotem were named Producers of the Year, while T-Pain scored the Songwriter of the Year title for writing hits including West’s Good Life and Flo Rida’s Low.
The BMI awards pay tribute to the music industry’s top songwriters, composers and producers.
Rodney Jerkins, will.i.am, Polow Da Don, and Soulja Boy were also noted on BMI’s list of 2008′s Top Urban Producers.

Janet Jackson is basically being dissed by her label:

Janet said the following: That’s pretty difficult to say, only because of the record label at this point. We started off with Feedback and the label and myself haven’t quite seen eye to eye since the Feedback single so they’ve kind of basically stopped all promotion. I’m trying to figure out a way to say this, but just to say it and to be quite honest, they just stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album so I don’t think you’re going to hear another single off this album.

I love her new album it is great, I love the song Rock With You. At least Janet has her tour right!?

Mariah Carey’s album cover has recently surfaced. It is actually not bad although the pink font doesn’t really match the photo. I really like the all black cover with Mariah in the white fancy dress. I definitely prefer this cover, to Janet’s scary cover. I wonder if they will revamp the font like they did with Ashlee Simpson’s cover for Bitter Sweet World.

Janet will not make her much anticipated appearance on this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live,” as she has the flu. She was feeling so badly she checked into the Emergency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center l in LA on Monday night with shortness of breath as well as flu symptoms. Meanwhile her boy Jermaine Dupri was seen out ! with Jay-Z at Butter in NYC right around the same time. No official word yet on who step in to be her replacement. Her latest album, Discipline, just debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with sales of almost 200,000! I must say that the ‘feedback’ single is really catchy.

Here she is doing the red carpet walk at the premier of her latest movie “Why Did I Get Married.” The movie was written and directed by Tyler Perry who is a comedian. Janet’s latest feature film role is playing the wife of a couple who go to a marriage counselling retreat.

Check her out. She’s looking fabulous. All that Yo-Yo dieting isn’t healthy, but she is looking better than she has in months.
