Well, it looks like one singer has managed to make her charity work be about something more than just publicity… or so the UN seems to think about Shakira’s charity work for children. She was presented with an award for it and this is what she said on the matter: “It’s not too late to keep our promise to our children, but we must act now. Together, we can make education and decent work for all a reality.” Forget the Grammys and other cheesy, celebrity awards… this is real recognition right here! And Shakira didn’t even have to save anybody in Haiti.
Cheryl Cole’s divorce from Ashley Cole could be swift and painless, observers say.
The UK Mirror claimed the Geordie pop star could be permanently free of football star Ashley in time for the World Cup in June.
A top family lawyer, Julian Hawkhead, said: “The impression is they are both keen to get on with it. They are both commercially minded people with strong commercial people in the background advising them.”
Cole has so far confirmed a separation of her three-and-a-half year marriage only, however, in the wake of a sex-texting scandal involving Ashley.
The newspaper reported Hawkhead said a potential divorce would be “relatively painless”.
“A case where it’s young people and no children and both with lots of money, it should be an easy divorce,” he said.
The partner at Stowe Family Law, in North Yorkshire, said the pair may have begun negotiating a settlement in private and could divorce within three to four months.
He said the Coles’ assets, including their £6million ($9.3million) Surrey mansion, could be divided. “I think Ashley probably earns a bit more than Cheryl so she might want a share of his earnings but she has good earnings in her own right. I think she’ll just want to get on with her life.”
Kris Jenner has spoken about her daughter Kourtney’s babydaddy Scott and said she just wants someone who is ‘dedicated’ to her and grandson Mason.
Jenner was talking after the season finale of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, where viewers saw Kourtney give birth to her son Mason in December.
Jenner has made no secret of her feelings for Mason’s dad Scott and said: “I want someone who’s dedicated to Kourtney and the baby, who has something to get up for every day – not just get up and go and get a tan in the backyard.”
She added: “It’s not just success monetarily. It’s finding something you love to do.
“I’m as hard on [her son] Rob as I am on Scott. I set the bar really high and expect a lot out of my kids.”
Jenner also said: “When you date one of my kids, you date all of us.”
Oprah Winfrey’s medical guru recently came under fire for promoting alternative treatments.
Mehmet Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon, was accused of quackery by his outspoken peers. According to MSNBC, Oz encouraged viewers of the popular daytime show to “cure what ails them” by trying out “energy medicine”.
Stephen Barrett, a vice-president of the National Council Against Health Fraud, told a US tabloid, “One part of Dr Oz is highly rational and scientific, but I think he’s also loaded with near-delusional ideas and gives some very bad advice. The bottom line for me is that he does more harm than good for American health.”
MSNBC reports that Oz’s promotion of Reiki, which his wife teaches, has particularly come under fire. Mary Ann Malloy, a cardiologist, told the National Enquirer: “Dr Oz promotes unproven approaches such as Reiki and Therapeutic Touch, and to support them he cherry-picks studies that are positive and ignores the negative ones.”
Not all physicians, however, were opposed. Ernie Bodai said: “I like what Dr Oz is doing and I agree with it. If a patient wants these kinds of complementary treatments, I think a doctor is right to utilise them – as long as they are used as an addition to standard medical treatments rather than a replacement.”
Britain’s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan is to interview the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on his Life Stories TV show.

Brown will reportedly be answering questions about his personal life as well as politics during the episode.

“He’s one of the most famous people in the country, yet remains a man of mystery.”
It seems the singer who recently got the opportunity to act a bit in the TV Series Gossip Girl has got it into her head that there may be a future for her in acting as well. A source said the following about Lady GaGa’s new acting ambition: “She sees acting as a natural progression in her career. One idea she has is for a rock opera which would be a huge, big budget movie made to her own very unique ideas. But she is also keen on straight dramatic roles. She has the drive and confidence to make it big as an actress. It’s just a matter of finding time when she is not committed to her first love – music.” Truly a marvelous idea and one can only imagine what Lady GaGa’s unique creativity will spawn once put in the context of a rock opera: beer, tits and rock & roll… maybe a threesome or two, on the side.
Renee Zellweger is reportedly set to meet boyfriend Bradley Cooper’s parents.
The Bridget Jones star is said to be planning to spend her Thanksgiving holiday with the actor’s mother and father. Sources say she is heading to Philadelphia in November for a short break.
“Things have been heading in this direction for the two of them for a while,” an insider said. “This definitely solidifies how serious they are. She says she’s nervous, and she’s really hoping it goes well.”
The pair have been dating for several months.
“It’s quite serious,” adds the insider. “Renee and Bradley are crazy about each other.”
A representative for the actress was unavailable for comment.

Supermodel Cindy Crawford is keeping an eye on her famous mole – after concerns that it could become cancerous.
Crawford, 43, has revealed that her famous beauty spot has grown since the 1980s and that she regularly has it checked.
Doctors advise people to monitor moles that have changed colour or shape, in case they turn cancerous.
Crawford said: “It’s not something I really like to talk about. But I do now get this [mole] and all my moles checked out every year as a matter of course. Of course, it should be an issue we all have to take seriously.”
She added: “I keep very healthy otherwise. I exercise regularly and eat well. I don’t smoke and I drink only occasionally, like tonight, when I may have a glass of champagne.”
Crawford was speaking at the London launch party for Omega watches.

Jenna Fischer, who plays a dowdy receptionist in The Office, said she loved being a secretary before she got her big acting break.
The 35-year-old, who stars in the US version, spoke about her time as an executive assistant.
“I actually liked the routine of going to an office every day, having a desk and making coffee,” the actress said. “And when I had a good boss, I liked anticipating his needs.
“Even when it came to making lunch reservation, I’d think: ‘How can I do this better than just calling up and saying: “Table for two?”
“‘I know, I’ll make friends with the maitre d’ and get the best seat in the place’.”
Two years ago, she broke her back in four places after falling down a flight of stairs. Unable to exercise, she comfort-ate and put on 10lbs.
Fischer said: “And to add insult to injury, I ended up throwing my own drink in my face.
“My hair was caked with a putrid pineapple smell. It was awful…
“Before the accident, I wore size 26 jeans. I was truly in the best shape of my life. Afterward, I gained 10lbs and got flabby.”
But Fischer ditched the excess weight by cutting back on junk food and by hiking with friends.
“I lost the first few pounds, which was a great motivator,” she says. “But I had to do more.”
Fischer eventually felt well enough to hit the gym.
