Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon is reportedly joining The Big C.
It is claimed that Nixon, 44, will guest star in four episodes of the Showtime programme.
According to TV Guide.com, she will be taking on the role of Rebecca, a former college roommate of Cathy, played by Laura Linney, whose life is turned upside-down by her arrival.
The show is centred around schoolteacher Cathy, who tries to reclaim her life when she is diagnosed with cancer.

The stylist behind Sex and the City’s iconic style, Patricia Field, says that Sarah Jessica Parker “is a poor girl made good”.
Field was addressing reports that had allegedly labelled Parker the “greediest woman” in Hollywood when it came to such things as costumes.
“She’s lovely, she’s intelligent, she’s articulate,” Field said of the actress.
“She’s in a position where she’s offered many things. I am, as well.
“My take on it is her thing is that she comes from a family that was not wealthy at all… She remembers her childhood as being poor,” the stylist said to OK! magazine.
Field explained: “If there’s anything that makes her like that, it’s that she grew up poor, and she delights in all the things she can have and has.”

Sarah Jessica Parker says there was no feuding on the set of Sex And The City 2.
The actress, who will reprise the role of Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex And The City sequel, said all the girls got along while making the movie.
Sarah Jessica said that what made the film special was filming abroad and getting the opportunity to bond with co-stars Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon.
She said: “What I’m most happy to tell you is that we four women, despite I guess what a lot of people hope, have never been better.
“This movie – and maybe it’s because we actually lived together – it was the best!
“We were together all day long, at night, in the restaurants, in our hotels.
“It was wonderful.”

Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall has said there is no connection between her on-screen character Samantha and herself.
The 53-year-old actress is preparing for her new stage role in Noel Coward’s Private Lives in London’s West End and said her SATC character will return to screens in the movie sequel later this year.
But she said she isn’t like her character of Samantha. She said to UK newspaper Daily Mail: “I don’t think it’s me. There’s a clear separation. I can’t relate to it in the way other people do.
“People used to ask me to come and speak to women about sex issues and relationships and women running businesses. That’s not what I do – I am none of those things.
“It’s a character! I got an award and joked, ‘This is what I got for sleeping with so many men.’”
Sarah Jessica Parker has revealed the effortless banter with her co-stars in endless restaurant scenes in Sex and The City is far trickier than it looks.
Indeed, the actress said the little coffee shop scenes were harder to film than the series’s frequent sex romps. She said:”It’s those little scenes. Nothing is harder than a coffee shop scene in Sex and The City. That’s the truth. I don’t know why but they are the hardest.”
Parker has recently shot the sequel to the 2008 Sex and The City movie. But she said there was no sense of confidence to go with her accomplishments. Parker dislikes seeing herself on the big screen and worries that she is not a good enough actress.
“I worry constantly about work. I just want it to be good. I don’t want to be a person that doesn’t care,” she said.

The 44-year-old beauty plays the role of Carrie Bradshaw in the hit TV series, which had its big-screen adaptation released in 2008.
The movie’s sequel is due out later this year.
Asked how filming is going, she said: “It’s been going beautifully and it’s fun and exciting and very much an adventure. We’ve been shooting in Morocco for the past six weeks, we’ve just wrapped there.
“I still have some work to complete in New York but it’s been great and it’s really a romp, it’s really a caper this movie. I’m looking forward to people seeing it.”
Sex And The City star Kim Cattrall will be stripping off again to stop a work of art from being sold.
Cattrall, 53, will be recreating the famous Diana and Callisto painting by the renaissance artist Titian to raise some money towards the $100 million needed to buy the painting and keep on public view.
Cattrall last year posed semi-naked to recreate the portrait’s sister painting, Diana and Actaeon, which was purchased by the National Galleries of Scotland and London.
She volunteered to strip off when the Scottish government denied the public buying of the Diana and Callisto that is on display in Edinburgh.
Cattrall’s spokeswoman said: “Kim is committed to do whatever she can to keep the second Titian on public view.”
After wrapping up her scene for the new “Sex and the City” movie, Liza Minnelli gave a very heartfelt performance for the cast and crew that brought them to tears. Perez Hilton related the following on the matter: “After the shoot, Liza said, ‘I would like to have everyone’s attention,’ and they pulled out a stool for her at the piano and gave her a mic and she sang a favorite of her mother, Judy Garland. Then she said, ‘Thank you for letting me play with you guys.’ It was so heartfelt and genuine. I got choked up and several people were sobbing like a baby, but I’m not going to name names!” It looks like Liza Minnelli has still got it… either that or the estrogen-enriched atmosphere at the shoot was to blame. Guess we will never know.
Actress Kristin Davis is being spoiled rotten by her adoring Australian beau, photographer Russell James.
James has showered her with many gifts to make her feel special. A source said, “He has put a lot into making this work. He’s made Kristin a princess and she loves every minute.”
The pair first surfaced as an item when Davis flew all the way to Sydney for an opening of a James retrospective. He has been based in New York a long time and the two were soon seen out like an ordinary couple in Los Angeles.
The source added: “It’s been terribly passionate and romantic. He showers Kristin with gifts and love notes, like a teenage boy in love.”
Davis, a southern belle, has recently filmed the sequel Sex and the City movie with Sarah Jessica Parker. An insider said, “Sarah’s been teasing her that she’s being spoiled by Russell. It’s all in good fun and of course everyone is happy for her.”

Recent reports have suggested that the pair of actresses have been fighting while filming the new SATC sequel.
A source said that Kim, 53, and Sarah, 44: “dislike each other so much they refuse to talk to one another”, leaving the rest of the cast and crew feeling uncomfortable on set.
It has now been reported that this report are untrue.
A rep for Parker said the claims are “false on every level”.
A source close to to the production also said everyone on set are good friends.
The insider said: “The camaraderie on the set is super tight. Really good.”
The pair are not feuding and claims that Sarah, who plays Carrie Bradshaw in the TV and film series, can’t handle her gruelling filming schedule while, at the same time, being a good mum, have also been found to be rubbish.
The insider added: “It’s important for [Parker] to be a hands-on mum and now it’s being twisted against her? She has what’s an appropriate and responsible [amount of help]. It also doesn’t cause any issues with her professional duties.”
